Great service, large dining area with nice decor and good food make this Italian history a must in Somerville Bar area large and service good . Special cold brew espresso martini smooth and creamy . Pizza thinner crust but great flavor. Sauce rich and sweeter and lots of fresh spices and veggies on each. Fried ravioli have tons of ricotta inside and crispy shell . A great place for families

I love trying strombolis from different pizzerias so I had to try one here! Their sandwiches and pizzas looked really delicious as well so I'll definitely be back to try some. Ambiance: cozy dining area with plenty of seating! There's also a bar area that opens up for more of a night life scene Service: staff was friendly! Sandwiches are usually only served during lunch but they gave us a tip that we can also "unofficially" order sandwiches for dinner too Food: Pepperoni Stromboli: The Stromboli was medium sized and filled with Cheese and pepperoni! I only wish that it was baked longer to have a better crunchy exterior. I'd love to come by to try their sandwiches and pizzas

I had dinner there on Friday night 11/15. with some Family members. I had the Rigatoni Bolognese, with a glass of Red Sangria, both were very good. Before the entree a Bowl of Fresh Salad, and a Basket of Bread was put on the Table. My siblings, who got Seafood dishes were happy with there meals also. The service was great, and the prices for the portions, was worth the visit.

Friday night and very busy outside and inside but we were taken care of very quickly. Our waitress was just amazing Annie S. Great smile and so attentive and the rest of the staff was great too. Thank you for making your place feel so welcomed. Food was amazing and with a little of this and that everything was great, the pizza, the wings, the meatball and pasta. Great place overall

Loveee the pizza, just like the classic traditional NY Italian thin crust! We were absolutely starving when we walked in on a weeknight and the whole meal delivered. The zucchini fries weren't as fresh as hoped (seemed reheated) but the marg pizza pie was delicious! Love ordering from this place for lunch or dinner, can't go wrong everything is authentic and delicious.

This has been the family spot for decades! I always love their food -- with a recent obsession of chicken piccata. Service is very attentive, but everything is fresh so it's not the fastest. Ambiance is very warm and welcoming. Will be eating here forever!

Great food, nice staff and a pretty large space! Really enjoyed meeting my in laws and gma here for a quick early lunch on a Thursday. Service was great- we ordered salads and all of them were huge and delicious. I really liked the burrata- very good and took 1/2 home! Thanks for a great meal! Would absolutely go back- huge parking lot was across the street and used a few quarters I had! So easy!

Alfonso's Trattoria has been a mainstay of downtown Somerville for close to 50 years serving up traditional Italian cuisine and pizza. I love the atmosphere as the interiors are spacious and the brick walls/fixtures add a certain rustic charm to the place. I tend to gravitate towards these types of restaurants when I want to dine out as the layout isn't cookie cutter or generic. We started off with garlic bread with cheese, and it was served up on a high quality Italian bread with just the right amount of cheese and garlic accents, without being too greasy. For meals, we split an upside down grandma pizza and chicken parmigiana entree with penne vodka and side salad. The upside down grandma pizza was excellent when served piping hot, but we found that both the cheese and crust lost a bit of their pizzazz and zest within a few minutes, and agreed it didn't taste nearly as good cold. The tomato sauce on top was flavorful and distinct (in a good way). The chicken parmigiana entree and penne vodka were both solid recipes and of the high standard you'd expect at a decent central New Jersey Italian restaurant. The side garden salad was typically average. Overall, the food would rate in the 3.5-4 out of 5 range...just standard decent and hearty Italian fare that's reliable, but nothing groundbreaking with regards to recipes. The service was attentive and friendly, so happy to round up to an overall 4/5 rating. I hadn't been to Alfonso's in probably over 10 years, but having dined here multiple times now, I can vouch for it as a decent place for pizza and Italian comfort food in Somerville.

It's been a long time since we were dining in Alfonso's. It did not disappoint. Tom and I were eating on a Thursday a little later than we usually do so I didn't want a huge, heavy meal. We chose to combine 1 personal pizza with 2 appetizers. It was more than enough food! The portions were very generous. We had the fried calamari and the garlic shrimp Toscana with a plain pie. Everything was delicious. We brought home calamari and some shrimp. The pie was demolished. For dessert we split the lemon Italian cream cake- amazing! It was light and just a perfect end to our meal. Our server, Jenny was a joy - she took good care of us. We'll be going back.
